Overlocker for Beginners Class in the Sewing Studio at fabric & finery Helensburgh, opposite the train station. Free kerbside parking either side of East Princes Street.
At our sewing school you are very welcome and encouraged to bring your own overlocker to class. All overlocker models are threading slightly differently, so if you would not learn on your OWN OVERLOCKER, you might return home to your own machine and find that you might need to start over.
Please kindly note that this class is not suitable for Air-threader-machines as we will for a long time practise the confident threading of the machines and the tension problems, so any lucky owners of Air Threader Machines might get a bit bored….
Please dont forget the pedal, the handbook and any tools you may have with the machine, tweezers, screw drivers, allen keys etc. If your overlocker did not come with a handbook, please download one from the internet and bring the print out with you in case your particular machine has a function your tutor has not yet met previously.
Alternatively of course please feel free to let us know if you wanted to use an SEWING SCHOOL OVERLOCKER in case you wished to complete this class to help you decide if you actually wanted to purchase “the beast”. We can advise you what to look out for when buying one, and we recommend to speak to Andrew Pemberton at Pembertons in Stirling about their 2nd hand and new machines, often your funds will go so much further when purchasing a preloved overlocker that comes with a 2nd hand warranty.
We disencourage private ebay or facebook marketplace sales, you just do not know the history of those overlockers and they may be faulty / the timing might be out which is expensive to repair, an overlocker service can cost more than a sewing machine service and easily reach £100 if something is actually wrong with it.
Class content / small group of max 6 participants to allow for plenty of questions:
Learn how to thread the overlocker, how to stitch with it and make friends with it!
We will give you a set of 4 colours threads to use during the class to understand which thread has which job, we will sew inner and outer curves and explore stitch width and length and what the Differential Feed does.
We will also make a first project sewn entirely with the overlocker, a Drawstring bag for which all materials are included in the class fee.
You will go home being confident about your ability to thread your own overlocker and continue this new adventure at home!
Sh0uld you have to cancel your class after having booked it and paid for it, we will refund your fee if and once we have managed to resell your space to someone on the waitlist.
