Originally they were used for chenille work, hence the name. Chenille is the French word for caterpillar whose fur the yarn is supposed to resemble. Chenille needles are very sharp and have a larger eye. The smallest size 24 is brilliant for day to day sewing offering a larger eye for threading with ease, the largest size 16 is like a sharp wool needle, very large eye but sharp point, great for many craft purposes.
