The team at fabric & finery, based in our brick-and-mortar shop in Helensburgh, Scotland, includes skilled dressmakers, soft furnishers, knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, quilters and all-round crafty people.

Although this is our online shop, we are only a wee message away. Please get in touch via the contact form if you need help choosing the right products for your next project.

Our Maker’s Parcel Gift Service is designed to help you find thoughtful gifts for crafty people, sent directly to the recipient with a handwritten greeting.

We can also create custom sewing, knitting, crochet or needlework hampers, so please get in touch if you have something special in mind.

Postage is kept low at £3.50 for Royal Mail 48hr tracked delivery, and we cover postage on orders over £60 as a wee thank you.

Having a Clear out and found the last remaining Medium size sets of premium quality Polycotton Scrubs that were sewn by our brilliant Sewing Group of a 120 ladies at the time...and a few drawstring bags.

Everything at £2 a piece, just to clear it.

Anyone got shoes or boots they rather stored in a spacious bag?
Anyone not liking the quality of scrubs they biy online and rather wanting better ones (and would be allowed to wear the mid blue post pandemic)?

Just let us know.
When they are gone, they are gone.

Was at the Area Day of Region 16 Argyll Quilters today with a pop up shop, they invite me every year which is really lovely.

Heard the sad news that also "Love from Beth" had to give up her physical premises, her beautiful shop in
Arbroath, because running costs were surpassing income...well, soon people will no longer know the enticing feeling of browsing and discovering, bathing the senses in new things...just the clonk of a parcel thrown over the hedge will have to do for the creation of excitement...all this to say, please do have a look at her website www lovefrombeth com, she dyes and prints her own fabrics, wonderful joyful patterns, the multi basket in the picture is one of her kits, this wonderful creation was shown at the show and tell today.

Faux leather bias binding in 12 colours, 25mm single fold, made in Italy! £2.65/m

They will be added to the website asap, you can inspect them in the shop on a Wed, Fri, Sat 10am to 5pm.

These bindings are great to repair torn or tired edges of jackets, bags, sleeves, rucksacks, they are great for making chunky piping with, or accent empty piping along the yoke of a skirt or denim shiry...they have many, many uses. Washable at 30 degrees, low spin. ...

And to go with that, we have made up "Stocking Completion Kits" for you, at £8.95 each, in red, green/white, mustard, burgundy, brown and silver.

We thought you had fabrics enough to make your stockings, we should rather provide you with a kit for the stocking pattern, the wadding, the lining, the faux fur piping, the ribbons and bells and of course the thread to make your stocking!

This just popped up in my feed - You can sew these table runners and other Christmas tartan decorations so easily yourself with our many various Poly-Viscose Tartans we are stocking, in the shop and online on our website, only £8.95/m for a 148cm width. They wash very well, too.

The next full day session is this Sunday, 4th of October, 10am to 5pm at £95 per petson which includes the full kit worth £34.95. You can use a school sewing machine if preferred. Just bring your usual sewing kit.

Helllloooo! fabric&finery here again with yet more yarn questions.....

We have listened, followed the requests, likes and dislikes and have

× restocked lots of Yummy chunky chenille and Anchor Creativa Fino 4ply Cotton
× created yet more full kits with the pattern and corresponding yarns as a full project, they will now also go online, which is great as they go well with our Makers Parcel postal gift service!
× we have also added smaller project kits like the pictured puffins to knit.
× we are actively looking for a nice 100% wool to replace our West Yorkshire Spinners section, samples are on order as we speak!

Now the next question! If we were to offer KNITTING and CROCHET one off WORKSHOPS, what topics would you like and what times?

Had a lovely day today teaching the Full Day Advent Calendar workshop, busy busy and you could hear a pin drop at times with all the concentrated sewing...and a couple of heartfelt sighs and groans when we got to the hand stitching bit for the decorations, haha, but needle threaders to the rescue and everyone stitched on their decorations and added some delicate french knot embroideries just fine!

Is there anyone in Helensburgh and surroundings who sells this particular standard mug shape?

I have received another order of fabric&finery mugs for our ever growing sewing school and think it would be an awful waste if these pristine packagings would go straight in the blue bin?

SEPTEMBER SEWING MACHINE FOR BEGINNERS CLASS!

As two of the booked participants were ill for the class that was meant to start today, we have moved the entire class back by one weekend, which gratefully suited everyone, that way no one lost their fee! We also have got one last place on this class if the new dates suited you?

Sunday, 13th and Sunday 27th of September 2026, 10am to 4pm.
£130 for both Sundays incl all materials used in the class, just bring your sewing kit and your machine (pls let us know if you preferred to use a school machine).

Also, there is 1 LAST SPACE on the new Wednesday evening "SEWING TIME" CLUB starting this Wednesday 9th of September and then running FORTNIGHTLY all year round. You always pay ahead from session to session, 7pm to 9.30pm (2.5hrs) the fee is £17 and you also get 10% off any shop purchases on the night.
Bring your machine or use a school machine, bring your project or purchase one of the many sewing project kits in the shop to get you started. The kettle is on!

Book your spaces in the Clubs & Classes section on our website www fabricandfinery co uk. The classes are in the shop at 32 East Princes Street, Helensburgh G84 7QA. Free kerbside parking on Sundays and after 5pm on other days.

Dear All, please can I ask you a question, I could do with some guidance.

We are experiencing more and more people speaking to us as if we were Chat gpt or google, not real humans.

They come in the shop and say "buttons?" or "ribbons?" Nothing else. What about "good morning, how are you, please would you show me where your buttons are?"

So now I receive the attached request through the website. Is it too much asked to expect some niceties around the sample request?

I am so done with this, what I call rudeness and entitlement, finger snipping. Or am I old fashioned and this is (sadly) the going lingo of 2026 as most people speak more to chatgpt than to humans in a day? But why do these humans not value other humans? And what do I reply to this sample request? "You get your sample once you remember to say please and thank you?" - over to you, please help a girl out. Many thanks. Irina ...
