The team at fabric & finery, based in our brick-and-mortar shop in Helensburgh, Scotland, includes skilled dressmakers, soft furnishers, knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, quilters and all-round crafty people.

Although this is our online shop, we are only a wee message away. Please get in touch via the contact form if you need help choosing the right products for your next project.

Our Maker’s Parcel Gift Service is designed to help you find thoughtful gifts for crafty people, sent directly to the recipient with a handwritten greeting.

We can also create custom sewing, knitting, crochet or needlework hampers, so please get in touch if you have something special in mind.

Postage is kept low at £3.50 for Royal Mail 48hr tracked delivery, and we cover postage on orders over £60 as a wee thank you.

SEPTEMBER SEWING MACHINE FOR BEGINNERS CLASS!As two of the booked participants were ill for the class that was meant to start today, we have moved the entire class back by one weekend, which gratefully suited everyone, that way no one lost their fee! We also have got one last place on this class if the new dates suited you?Sunday, 13th and Sunday 27th of September 2026, 10am to 4pm.
£130 for both Sundays incl all materials used in the class, just bring your sewing kit and your machine (pls let us know if you preferred to use a school machine).Also, there is 1 LAST SPACE on the new Wednesday evening "SEWING TIME" CLUB starting this Wednesday 9th of September and then running FORTNIGHTLY all year round. You always pay ahead from session to session, 7pm to 9.30pm (2.5hrs) the fee is £17 and you also get 10% off any shop purchases on the night.

Dear All, please can I ask you a question, I could do with some guidance.We are experiencing more and more people speaking to us as if we were Chat gpt or google, not real humans.They come in the shop and say "buttons?" or "ribbons?" Nothing else. What about "good morning, how are you, please would you show me where your buttons are?"So now I receive the attached request through the website. Is it too much asked to expect some niceties around the sample request?I am so done with this, what I call rudeness and entitlement, finger snipping. Made up another "Makers Parcel" Gift today! Well, on this occasion I was the maker...the customers good friend was admitted to hospital and it was rembered she loved Puffins...our customer spotted this cushion kit on our website after a google search and asked if we would make it up into a cushion and send it directly to the hospital with a personalized note to her friend as flowers are not an allowed gift in the hospital.Of course! The total for this gift service was £35.95 door to door - even less than a decent bouquet of flowers delivered, it will give her friend comfort in the hospital bed and will not wilt!Let us know if we could do something special for you next?Many thanks, Irina & team

Even 17 years after my first @silentglissltd Aluminium Baywindow track measure and fit training, certificate and all, its still sooo satisfying if my maths worked out and the track with its 4 inside bends clicks into its brackets effortlessly.A couple of degrees per corner measured wrong and it would be a different picture. If you overbend these tracks to force them into their brackets, the gliders will not pass anymore.It is also mostly always the case that the measuring of the wall dimensions take place on top of a still in place dodgy old Swish self bendable track or other so there is actually a little bit of guesswork involved, too...This house here is a total renovation project and more important things like roof etc are tackled first but we put new tracks up so the old curtains can actually close again until next spring when the interior refurb starts...Small steps, lots of little successes, keeps the spirits going...!!

Our newest Moda Scrap Bag haul...Now with stickers on each so you know what's inside and you do not have to buy the "cat in the bag"...however this is a lot of work, so now our Scrap Bags are £16.50 each, still a superb bargain in comparison to official meterage!!For the first time ever we got mixed bags in our latest delivery and full widths cuts from ends of bolts instead of the usual vertical along the selvedge cuts, I have done my best deciphering the individual collections in each scrap bag!We are uploading them online now, too, so you can order them from further afield as well - or come pick them up by prior arrangement and get your postage refunded.

I am very late to the party and have not even watched tonights Sewing Bee yet as I was running Tuesday night's Quilt Club until a few minutes ago but halfway through my phone kept pinging and my team showed me that one of our fabrics was used tonight!! One of my favourite ones actually!Its the tiles Polyester Satin, so floaty and swishy, a steal at £8.95/m for a 60inch width in case you wanted to make a similar dress for yourself? It also looks great as the lining of a chunky wool coat for winter, its just a marvrllous fabric!We are open Wed, Fri, Sat 10am to 5pm if you wanted to pop in and inspect it!
