In this two Sunday full days workshop we make the pictured Christmas Lap Quilt. The full kit with all materials needed is included in this workshop fee. Max six spaces for each workshop to allow for plenty of questions and enough room for everyone. The finished size of the quilt will be 45inches by 60inches. It will look slightly different to the one in the picture with only one border around it as the panel is bigger than what my colleague used to make up this quilt. There will also be more trees.
You are very welcome to bring your own sewing machine, or use a sewing school simple non computerized Janome 219-S Sewing Machine that we have here at the sewing school. Please bring also a sewing kit with fabric scissors, snips, pins, unpicker, threads, a tape measure, a stiletto if you have one and anything else that you like to have around you when sewing.
This class is absolutely suitable for an eager post beginner, it should not be the very first project you ever sew on a machine but if you have completed a Beginners Sewing Machine Class previously or if you have made easy pouches and cushions previously, you will be just fine. As it is a daytime class, it is suitable for adults and also young people from 16 years of age.
For this kit you have several options, best if you let us know which option you like best at point of booking your space so we can have the kit ready for you on the day of the first workshop.
The quilt we are making together in this workshop will not look exactly like the one in the picture, this is last years work by one of our talented team members, I have taken it as inspiration to calculate the 2026 version for you.
1.) Christmas Tree panel plus classic christmas colours creams, reds, greens, etc, quite similar to the quilt in the picture
2.) Santa Panel plus classic christmas colours creams, reds, greens, etc, please see the panel in the picture gallery of this listing
The full kit will be handed to you on the first Sunday morning and includes:
- the chosen panel, green tree or red Santa.
- enough christmas patterned fabrics to make the Foundation Paper pieced trees
- several paper templates for the trees
- corresponding fabric for the sashing between the trees
- corresponding fabric for the borders
- corresponding fabric for the binding
- fabric for the backing – here you can choose in between a few options on the first Sunday.
- Polyperfect wadding by Moda Fabrics, cut to size, washes well and dries quick. The final quilt measures 43.5inches by 58.5inches, so the precut babycot size wadding of 45inches by 60inches will fit perfectly.
We can certainly facilitate a couple of swaps within the fat quarters for the trees that have been pre-selected for you for this full kit, you can swap some on the day if there was one or the other you really do not like so much.
Full day workshops give you not just the opportunity to sew and make a day out of it but also to be surrounded by like minded people for the day, to hear new stories, have a wee chat and a cuppa and a change of scenery. On a Sunday you have free off street parking all along East Princes Street, the shop is right across Helensburgh Train Station. For your lunch break you can bring a sandwich or you can nip out to Tesco/Greggs/Subway to grab something nice. The kettle will be on all day, but please note we do not have a microwave.
This two-Sundays workshop is spread over three weeks so that you have time in between to complete your homework so you can bring the finished quilt top to the second session, where we layer the quilt up, quilt it and then bind it.
Please let us know if you have to be careful with some foods so we supply some sweet snacks for you to go with your cuppas that are suitable for your diet, so I can prepare something suitable for you.
If you had any questions at all, just message us on social media, send us an email via the contact form on this website or give us a call on 01436 672300, we will phone you back as soon as a team member is in the shop (we are not open every day anymore).
I will be your teacher and I am looking forward to this! Irina Agostinelli
