You learned how to sew with your Sewing Machine in our Beginners Class or elsewhere and now you are ready for the next step on your journey?
Welcome to our INTERMEDIATE SEWING CLASS. We have scheduled this class fortnightly so that you get a chance, even with a busy diary, to complete each project that you started in class. There is also a Whatsapp group for this class so you can chat to the other class members and post pictures! This class is suitable for age 16 years and above.
If you preferred to sew on your own machine, please bring it to class, with a zipper foot, pedal and hand book. You will also need a sewing kit with various threads, various machine needles, pins, snips and fabric scissors, measuring tape, unpicker and perhaps a jotter plus pen would be a good idea, too.
You are also very welcome to use one of the simple non-computerized Janome S19 sewing school machines, should your own machine be too heavy or you are coming straight from work.
These are the FOUR projects we are tackling over the four evenings of this class:
* An Apron with facings, tea towel holding belt and large pocket. All materials, pattern and youtube video instructions for this apron are included in the class fee, there are many different styles to choose from.
* Messenger Bag out of an old jeans plus an old cotton or polycotton shirt/blouse, please raid the Charity shops and bring one of each. Please make sure the Shirt/Blouse fabric is not too flimsy as it will then not behave very well when sewing. Please make sure the jeans is not too stretchy and has nice pockets and a nice hem, not too frizzy as one of the hems is used for the bag’s inner pocket.
Pattern, interfacings, webbings, zips and bag hardware included in the class fee. There is also a full youtube tutorial for this bag.
* A round boxed and piped velvet cushion with a big cover button. Choose from a variety of velvet colours learn how to make a covered button, piping and sewing with Velvet which is no mean feat. All materials included in the class fee incl the cushion filler.
* A zipped, boxed sponge/utility bag sewn with waxed canvas involving some leather or webbing tabs. This bag is meant to introduce new materials to you and show you how to deal with them. Written instructions are provided to complete this bag at home, there is also a paper pattern.
