Let’s sew together and learn the in’s and out’s of your Sewing Machine!
Please book your space in the shop, via the phone, messenger or online via our website. Should you need to cancel a class after you have booked it, we will issue a full refund if we are able to resell your space to someone on the waiting list. Please kindly note this is an evening sewing class suitable for adults and teenagers from 16years of age.
Classes take place in the Sewing Studio at “fabric & finery” Helensburgh, 32 East Princes Street, G84 7QA. Phone 01436 672300.
The 2 consecutive FULL DAY SUNDAY SESSIONS ARE 18TH AND 25TH OF JANUARY, 10am to 4pm
You are encouraged to bring your own sewing machine with you to get to know it better and you are invited to ask lots of questions about it, please do bring your handbook as well (and the pedal of course).
Alternatively you may use one of the manual sewing school machines and we can help you with what to look out for when purchasing your own for the 2nd night of the class. We recommend Pembertons in Stirling for a great, reliable purchase. Please also look at their “preloved” section as often an older sewing machine is of much better quality than a new one, we can help you with this.
We will discuss many functions of your machine, thread and machine needle qualities, different pins and other suitable haberdashery etc. The scheduled projects will prepare you for tackling lots more Sewing Adventures going forward.
The four projects are:
1st Sunday AM 1: Understand your Sewing Machine, Threads, Needles, Bobbins etc and make Double sided Bunting with a provided kit
1st Sunday PM: Zipped Felt Pouch with Piping and Lace Inserts, choose from felt colours, piping and lace options
2nd Sunday PM: Short Introduction to Dressmaking, speaking about patterns and how they work, a short dive into body measurements, design ease and different fabric qualities (drape, no drape etc), their feel and suitability for projects, sewing a dart on a sample
2nd Sunday AM: A piped and concealed zipped cushion cover, fabrics and zips provided
All project materials are provided, please bring a small sewing kit with fabric scissors, pins, unpicker, threads and a tape measure. Please also bring a jotter and pen, you might want to note a few things down.
Your tutor will be myself, as you might know I am sewing professionally every day of the week in the Sewing Studio at fabric & finery and over my 45 years of sewing experience have seen many trends come and go. I am looking forward to some great sewing time with you all, and to provide you with a sound foundation of knowledge and confidence on your sewing & creating journey. Cannot wait to meet you all!
