Please book your space in the shop, via the phone, messenger or online via our website. Should you need to cancel a class after you have booked it, we will issue a full refund if we are able to resell your space to someone on the waiting list. Please kindly note this class is suitable for adults and teenagers from 16years of age.
You need to be able to confidently use your sewing machine, know its functions and fill a bobbin, so that you can fully concentrate on the patchwork aspect of the class. If your own machine is too heavy to transport, you are very welcome to a simple non computerized sewing school machine, equipped with a quarter inch foot. If bringing your own, please bring your quarter inch foot if you have one. If you do not, we can sort something at class, I have some feet that could fit or we find out where you need to position the needle with the feet you already have, to achieve the 1/4inch seam allowance.
Classes take place in the Sewing Studio at “fabric & finery” Helensburgh, 32 East Princes Street, G84 7QA. Phone 01436 672300.
The 2 consecutive FULL DAY SUNDAY SESSIONS ARE 12th AND 19th OF April 2026, 10am to 5pm
(we will of course take a lunch break in between, bring your sandwich or nip out to the various outlets, the kettle is on and the chocolate & cookie box is open!) Please let us know if you desire gluten free or vegan snacks and they will be gladly provided. Please also let us know if there are any strong allergies the other class members should know about to reduce the risk for you.
10AM to 5PM on each Sunday, £145 per person incl. all materials for the project.
The class fee of £145 splits up into 2 x £60 for the two full days of tuition and £25 for the kit of wadding, calico backing, bias binding and a bundle of five fat quarters.
A few days before the first class session we set up a whatsapp group for the participants and post up multiple choices of fat quarter bundles in different colours and styles for you to choose from. You can also let us know your favourite colours and we make a different bundle up for you.
Please bring a small sewing kit with fabric scissors, snips, threads, pins and measuring tape. For your thread bring a cotton thread if you have one or otherwise any cream/neutral colour thread will do for your first patchwork attempt, you do not need to buy anything else new. Please also bring a note book and a pen, you might want to jot a few things down.
Quilting Mats, Rulers and several types of Rotary Cutters are provided so you can try everything out. We start right at the beginning with proper measuring and cutting, then we will make four blocks, the Log Cabin block to practise accurate measuring, sewing and pressing, the Half Square Triangle Star to learn grading, the Disappearing 4 Patch, and the “no waste” Flying Geese Block.
The idea is to make a small table runner with these 4 blocks, layered up, quilted and bound, over the two Sundays. There will be full instructions handed out to support the project, so you will be absolutely able to finish your table runner at home, should you prefer a slower pace of work. We will also add video snippets to the class’ whatsapp group.
All shop stock purchases related to this project during these 2 Quilt Sundays entitle you to a 10% discount.
Book your place in-store, via phone, messsenger or online via the class section on our website. www.fabricandfinery.co.uk
Your tutor will be myself, as you might know I am sewing professionally every day of the week in the Sewing Studio at fabric & finery and over my 45 years of sewing experience have seen many trends come and go. I am looking forward to some great sewing time with you all, and to provide you with a sound foundation of knowledge and confidence on your quilting and patchwork sewing & creating journey.
Cannot wait to meet you all!
